(R & R) + Creativity
For many, today is the day we survived the first day back to school after winter break. We sit in our beds reminiscing the two weeks of rest, relaxation, and good music. The aforementioned things in essence are deserved and much needed after the stress of school, but is watching entire seasons of shows on Netflix (back to back…) really the only forms of R&R you thought of? If your answer is yes then this article is perfect for you. Instead of wasting away your next break, get up andstimulate ideas and do things. Here are a few ideas to release the creative juices held back in mental dams you might have created during school weeks:
Write a letter to someone, even if it’s your best friend next door. There’s a special significance and charm in written letters sent with a stamp that has been lost amid the instant social networking our generation has grown up with. Decorate it with different colors, media (colored pencil, crayon, paints), sparkles, stickers, and other junk you find lying around. If you want to step it up a notch, find a penpal on tumblr. There are tons of bloggers from all different countries who would love to receive and write you a letter, just message them (If you would like to be my penpal you can message me here).
Channel your inner artist and doodle everything you use that day in a notebook. Little, simple sketches do just fine. Draw your Cheerios in a bowl, lip balm you spread on your lips, toilet paper, nail polish, pens, etc. It’s fun and at the end of the day, you’ll end up with a piece of art like this even if your doodled comb looks more like a cactus.
Revamp your room. Look at inspirational pictures of room designs that you’d love to replicate and go do it. Print out your favorite quotes and frame it. String up some fairy or Christmas lights. Draw something and pin it on your wall. Tape up pictures of you and your friends laughing (or shirtless pictures of the Franco brothers). This, this, and that are amazing rooms/ideas to steal & style from.
Revamp your closet. Go back to school with a refreshed sense of style by organizing and clearing out your clutter in your drawers: aka middle school clothes that you’ve kept (“just in case i ever need it!”) but never wear. Sift through your parents closets to see if you can find vintage or oversized pieces to integrate into your outfits.
Although this one is not so “creative”, treat yourself to a nice spa night. This is easy and you will feel clean and refreshed. Fill up a tub of any size with hot, steamy water. Pour in some good bath salt or throw in a bath bomb (the ones from Lush are my favorite-they are so fun!). Line the side of the tub with every candle you can find in your house and light them up. Finally dim your lights, put on a relaxing playlist, and soak in.
So the next time you’re counting off the days until you’re out of school remember my advice to get up off of your blog and create things for yourself. You will be so glad you did. Enjoy!
